Journey from victim to survivor to advocate

Born in Johannesburg, South Africa and immigrating to the US with her family when she was five, Nadine's life changed yet again with her parent's divorce when she was twelve. By seventeen she had dropped out of high school; by twenty she was married, and by thirty she was divorced. Even so, Nadine was still able to obtain her high school diploma and begin building what was to become a 20-year cosmetology career. Sadly, nothing had prepared her for October 18, 2006.

While in her own home, Nadine became the victim of a terrible crime and her life was dramatically altered. Enduring years of criminal court proceedings, Nadine not only survived the trauma, she became a passionate advocate for victim rights – thriving in the belief that if there was anything she could do to help another victim, then she was going to do it. And so she has – working for the Crisis Response Team as a first responder and with Crime Survivors – Nadine is helping other victims on their journey to survive.
